Galle Fort
Malabar House is located in the heart of Galle Fort. The Fort is both unique and enchanting and in 1988 was awarded UNESCO World Heritage status as one of the best examples of a Dutch-built fortified city in South Asia. It is a joy to wander the charming streets, with many restaurants and boutique shopping. The fort boasts a harmonious hybrid of old European and South Asian architectural styles, some of which date back to the early 1500s.
Beach Life
Along the coast from The Fort, and a short tuk-tuk ride away are some of Sri Lanka’s best beaches and coastline: The break at Dewata beach has rolled onto the surf scene, and is now a popular wave for beginner and experienced surfer’s alike. Unawatuna is a lively coastal town, lauded as being amongst the most beautiful bays in the world. While further along, quieter villages of Dalawella & Talpe feature palm-lined pristine white sand and turquoise waters.
Galle City
Galle, the capital of the Southern Province, is the fourth largest city in the Sri Lanka. Galle’s natural harbour and geographic location has attracted traders from Europe, Asia and the Middle East for centuries, and is a melting pot of trade and tourism. Exploring the winding streets, haggling for fresh tuna at the fish market, or tucking into some local delicacies with the residents will confirm why this city continues to be so popular.
